New logistics routes between the Baltic Sea and Central Europe, the development of intermodal transport and the growing importance of north-south connections will be the main topics of the conference ‘The Ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście – a gateway to the world for the Czech Republic and Silesia’, which will take place on 23–24 September in Ostrava.
The conference will focus on opportunities for developing logistics cooperation between the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście and the markets of the Czech Republic, Silesia, Slovakia and other Central European countries. The event’s programme includes topics related to intermodal transport, the development of transport corridors and the potential of ports as gateways for international trade.
– Szczecin is the seaport closest to Prague. Historically, for decades it served as an important window to the world for Czechoslovakia, and today we have the opportunity to restore its significance for the Czech economy. Record-breaking investment in rail infrastructure is providing a further boost, enhancing the competitiveness of north–south connections. As the PKP CARGO Group, we are actively supporting this process, amongst other things, by developing regular intermodal connections and utilising our terminal in Paskov as a natural hub linking Czech industry with Polish ports,” says Łukasz Grzesło, CEO of PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL a.s.
– Modern logistics is based on the integration of various modes of transport. A port is no longer merely a transhipment point, but a component of the entire supply chain. That is why it is so important to build partnerships between seaports, railways, intermodal terminals and cargo recipients. The conference will bring together representatives of ports, terminal operators, carriers, logistics companies and businesses utilising sea and rail transport. The meeting aims to showcase the potential of the ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście and to facilitate the exchange of experiences regarding the development of international transport corridors.
The event is organised by: the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA, the Szczecin Port Stakeholders’ Council and the Świnoujście Port Stakeholders’ Council, and the Szczecin Maritime University. The event’s partners are PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL and the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice.
The PKP CARGO INTERNATIONAL Group specialises in international rail transport and logistics services, primarily in the markets of Central and Southern Europe. It has its own transport capacity and operates the Paskov intermodal terminal, located near Ostrava on the borders of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.
One of the topics of discussion will be the development of logistics links between Polish ports and the southern part of Central Europe. In this context, the Paskov terminal could play a significant role, as it serves as a hub for intermodal transport to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and other countries in the region.
The conference ‘The Ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście – a gateway to the world for the Czech Republic and Silesia’ will take place on 23 and 24 September 2026 at the Mercure Ostrava Center Hotel in Ostrava.
