The international transport company Advanced World Transport (AWT), a member of PKP CARGO, has received a grant from European structural funds to implement the TAF TSI application (telematic application for freight) in its information systems. The project is co-financed by the European Commission under CEF – Connecting Europe Facility.

This entire European Union project is concentrated on developing and implementing standards for exchanging data in accordance with the regulation on the technical specifications for the interoperability of subsystems for telematic applications in the freight sector (TAF TSI) in information systems used by rail carriers for planning and carrying out their operational activities.

TAF TSI requires the enhancement of existing functions to include communications with infrastructure operators, carriers and wagon holders. The project will enable carriers to achieve full interoperability at less cost, but still provide the comprehensive solutions offered by big national carriers.

“Overall, the European Union seeks to support the rail sector and shift part of freight haulage from road to rail, and one way to do it is to unify the rules and conditions across the EU, something that will simplify access to rail transport. For this purpose, the EU has set up a special body of the European Railway Agency to define the rules and conditions. The implementation of the TSI TAS application in our information system is necessary for our company these days because it will simplify and streamline our work in the future,” says David Kostelník, the Chief Operating Officer of AWT.

Within AWT itself, a special project team of representatives from various divisions (operations, locomotive and fleet management, dispatching, IT, etc.) was set up to implement the application in the systems of the AWT group.

“Applying TSI TAF governs the way data is communicated between the various entities of railway infrastructure, such as between infrastructure managers, carriers, and wagon holders. The main goal of our project team is to ensure that AWT is fully interoperable within the European Union and is able to continue growing within the European rail market,” adds Barbora Lubojacká, the Chief IT Officer of AWT.
