The new strategy of the AWT Group is underway and has proved profitable in its first six months

At the end of 2018, the AWT (Advanced World Transport) Group, which is part of PKP CARGO, a leading logistics operator in Europe, began to successfully implement a new strategy, the effects of which are already visible. The entire AWT Group is reporting a profit in the first half-year.

The new strategy, reorganization process and increased efficiency have brought about positive financial results after a long time. The EBITDA of the AWT Group in the first half of 2019 amounted to 324 million CZK, with an EBIT of 48 million CZK and net profit of 30 million CZK. The AWT Group has reversed the trend of previous years, where most companies reported operating losses for a variety of reasons and for several years in a row the AWT Group was in the red at the end of the year.

“Our new strategy is focused on increasing operational efficiency and optimizing transportation processes, on improving the efficiency of using rolling stock, as well as the management of corporate property and assets and the productivity of our employees. We are likewise in the process of enacting changes in the organizational structure of the group that have also had an impact on efficiency. Today I am able to say that the entire AWT Group has reported a profit for the first half-year. We have managed all this not only on the Czech market, but also in Hungary, where AWT Rail HU has been in a complicated financial situation in recent years. I am convinced that this trend will continue into the future and we will meet our ambitious targets,” says Maciej Walczyk, the Chairman of Board of Directors of AWT.

In synergy with PKP CARGO, the AWT Group aims to be a strong, dependable and modern railway carrier operating throughout Europe, providing transport from north to south (and vice versa) using one locomotive and one driver – that is the main vision of the AWT Group’s strategy.

The priority of the entire group is to become a leader in intermodal transportation in the Three Seas region (Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea) and the European part of the New Silk Road. The experience and potential of AWT in providing rail and combined transport, principally in central and southern Europe, should make it a very key player in the future within the PKP CARGO Group.

In sum, PKP Cargo as a concern will continue to maintain its number two position in the Czech Republic among freight rail carriers. This comes from the data published by the Railway Infrastructure Administration (RIA) on its website.
