The terminal in Paskov, which is run by Advanced World Transport (AWT), a member of PKP CARGO, has a new operations building for dispatching and other related services. The facility was built as part of the third stage of modernizing the transshipment hub and expanding the depot handling area, which currently occupies unused areas of the former Paskov mine brownfield. AWT ceremoniously opened the building on 8 March 2018.
Paskov terminal is one of the few independent intermodal transshipment hubs open in the Czech Republic, with a handling area covering 31,000 m2. It has a capacity of 2,400 TEUs on three tracks measuring 270 meters in length. The big advantage is its location near various industrial zones and the borders with Poland and Slovakia. Its strategic position in the heart of Europe makes it quick and easy to connect to major European ports and terminals. It is located next to the highway and is connected by rail to the national rail network. The terminal handled more than 100,000 containers and trailers in 2017 and is currently running at almost one hundred percent.
“Combined transport and the ongoing development of Paskov terminal is one of our main strategic priorities for the AWT Group in the future. Together with our parent group PKP CARGO, we aim to connect the transshipment hub to other major European ports and terminals. Moving the shipment of goods from road to rail is one of the main objectives of the European Union in the transport sector and AWT intends to go in that direction as well. We would like to note, for example, our new regular service between the terminal in Paskov and one in Herne, Germany, where AWT transports trains with trailers for the major European carrier LKW WALTER,” says Arkadiusz Olewnik, CEO of AWT.
The third stage of modernization, which is being carried out partly from EU grants, will see the terminal expanded by an additional 40,000 m2 and its capacity increased to nearly 5,000 TEUs. To be built here will be two new tracks, each 350 meters in length, a parking area for 40 trucks, connections for refrigerated containers, and a special spot for containers with hazardous goods. This modernization has included building a new control center for dispatching and other related external services and facilities.
“The construction of a new, modern operations building for dispatching, for customs and declaration offices, and for other services was one of the main parts of the entire project for modernizing the transshipment hub. We will now continue to gradually expand the handling dock currently occupying unused areas of the former Paskov mine brownfield, and we are planning to complete the third stage in the spring of 2019. As part of the entire project itself, the adjacent AWT siding, which is mainly used for the terminal, will be renovated by the end of 2020,” says Bohumil Bonczek, Technical Director of AWT.
The terminal was established in 2007 and has been used for both AWT and external companies, ensuring all activities related to reloading, incoming and outgoing operations, light repairs for containers, clearing trains and storing containers at the dock, and custom services at the local customs office located on the premises of the terminal..
“Having all services in one place at the terminal in Paskov gives our customers a truly comprehensive package of services related to the intermodal transshipment of goods,” adds Bohumil Bonczek.
